FOCUS ON TESLA MOTORS

Tesla Motors, a manufacturer of high-end electric automobiles, had made the decision to install SAP ERP software in 2006, and hired a firm to provide these services. The installation was delayed and the final cut-over, in April 2007, was well below the Company's expectations. Atlas Systems was brought in to assess the deficiencies of the Tesla Store (SM/SD modules) and repair them.

Our engineering team performed an assessment and discovery process, and determined a series of steps that would bring the Tesla Store into conformation with the firm's requirements and industry best practices. Tesla Motors is unique in that the Company sells vehicles direct to the public rather than the usual franchised dealer model.

This retrofit project accomplished the task of getting the Tesla Store up and running, providing a fully-integrated point-of-sale system, proper reporting tools to monitor sales of vehicles, parts and services and documentation and training materials for operation purposes.

In 2006 Tesla Motors appeared on the scene with a unique business model; manufacture a mass-market electric sports car, edgy and high tech, and sell it themselves. The venture capitalists included PayPal and Google founders, indicating the interest in Silicon Valley in this upstart wunderkind. The Tesla Roadster accelerates, brakes and handles like a high-end sports car. The car is said to be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 in four seconds, is completely electric and has a range of 250 miles.
The company was named in honor of Nikola Tesla, the Serbian-American who invented the rotating magnetic field and obtained around 700 patents. Electric motors rely on the repulsion and attraction of magnets. Electric motors consist of a stationary, permanent magnet attached to a hub and surrounded by pairs of electromagnets. Those magnets are embedded in a rotating cylinder attached to the wheel. Rapidly changing the polarity of the electromagnets from positive to negative causes the wheel to propel itself forward.
